"Oh No!" is a song by Welsh vocalist Marina and the Diamonds from her debut studio album, The Family Jewels (2010). It was released equally the album's quaternary unmarried on 2 August 2010.[1]

Background and composition [edit]

"Oh No!" is an avant-garde, electropop, and trip the light fantastic-rock vocal with heavy synths.[2] [three] [4] [5] Written on a trip to Los Angeles a week after The Family unit Jewels was mastered, it was the final track to complete the album.[6] The singer explained:

["Oh No!"] was written in response to exist terrified of not achieving what I say I desire to reach every fourth dimension I open my big mouth. It'southward my part ii to "Mowgli'due south Route". I was paralysed by fear earlier my trip to the states and couldn't finish thinking about existence a failure "etc" and was convinced that I'd become a cocky-fulfilling prophecy if my brain didn't close upwards and stop being then negative. Then I put it in a song. "Mowgli's [Road]" questioned who I desire to be, "Oh No!" confirms it. It made me experience confident again after a shaky 6 months. Life is just a barrel of laughs at finish of day, anyway![6]

On Greg Kurstin, who produced the song, she said, "I had really admired his piece of work for a long time. Seeing equally I was in LA, I asked if he wanted to write together and [the vocal] came out really well. He's swell really, very easy to work with. I really like his product style besides."[vii]

The instrumental of "Oh No!" was used to advertise the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory on E4 in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland. On 25 July 2010, Diamandis performed the track on Channel iv'due south Large Brother'due south Little Blood brother, a spin-off show of the reality television series Big Brother in the UK and Republic of ireland.[8] "Oh No!" is included in the 2012 video game Just Dance 4. The vocal was used in a promo for the third season of the MTV series Awkward in 2013.

Music video [edit]

The music video for "Oh No!" was directed by Kinga Burza[ix] and filmed on 10 June 2010.[10] It was released on 28 June 2010.[xi] Diamandis said the music video was influenced by 1990s cartoons and the former "zany neon" MTV graphics.[12] Burza said the concept of the video stems from the lyric of "Oh No!", which references being obsessed with consumerism, success, money and fame.[12] The music video features a sequence with 4 dancers choreographed by David Leighton. He described the routine as quirky and "very bubblegum pop".[12] The stylist for the video was Celestine Cooney, who chose to characteristic outfits past Christopher Kane, Henry The netherlands and Ashish Soni.[12]
